ADULT PROGRAMS

Bowl Northern Ontario provides a program for Adult Bowlers as well. There are tournaments to be bowled in almost any month of the bowling season, whether for the beginner, the novice, or the pro!

Some of the tournaments provided are:
Bowl Canada Cup Team Bowling Championships – This tournament program is a National event run in both 5 Pin and 10 Pin, culminating in a national championship.

John Paziuk Memorial Northern Ontario Bowling Championship – This tournament is provincially-run on the 5-pin side in a mixed team format (2 ladies and 2 men plus the 3rd highest overall). A winning team from each competing house (after a house roll-off) then qualifies for a provincial round, competing for money prizes. It provides for great competition, as well as fun and friendship.

10 Pin World Cup – This tournament is open to adult 10-pin bowlers, who compete as singles in a provincial round to establish the winners (one male and one female) who will participate in the National championship, which then culminates in a chance to compete for Canada at the World Championships.

To compete in any of these events, an individual bowler must bowl in a league in a member centre of Bowl Northern Ontario (the only exception being the Canadian Open Five Pin Bowling Championships where in Northern Ontario a bowler must purchase a C5 membership but does not necessarily have to be a league bowler).

In tournaments, there are two categories: scratch and handicap. A handicap tournament is one where the bowler is given or allowed a number of points per game to be added to their individual score depending on their average (to make it more even). To establish an average, a bowler is required to bowl a minimum number of games in regular league play to be able to compete. In five pin, the winners are declared on the number of points bowled over established averages (which amounts to being given a 100% handicap). Any handicap system enables beginners and average bowlers a chance to compete successfully against the more skillful bowlers.

A scratch tournament has no handicap added and is usually comprised of the higher average bowlers.

Complete rules governing any tournament may be obtained from your local bowling centre or from the Bowl Northern Office.
